George Herman Ruth, Jr., better
known as Babe Ruth was born on
February 6th, 1895 and died on
August 16th, 1948. Nicknamed
"The Bambino" and "The Sultan of
Swat", Ruth was a Hall of Fame
outfielder and pitcher who spend
most of his career with the New
York Yankees. Ruth is considered
by many to be the greatest
baseball player and history and one
of the greatest American sports
icons. Off the field, Ruth was a
controversial figure. Ruth was
famous for his charity, but often led
a reckless lifestyle.
Ruth was a dominant power hitter of his time, being the first player to have 60 homeruns in
a season, a record that would last 34 years, and having a career total of 714 homeruns, a
record that was last 39 years. Unlike many other power hitters, Ruth also hit for average,
having a career batting average of .342 and single season high of .393, which still remains a
Yankees record. Ruth accumulated a career .690 career slugging percentage.
