As a child, Jessica Simpson began singing in the choir of a local Baptist church where her father, Joseph Simpson, also worked as the congregation’s youth minister. When she was 11 years, she decided to nurture her hopes to become a successful singer during a church retreat. At age 13, she attended a church camp where she sang Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” and an arrangement of “Amazing Grace.” While she was at the camp, Jessica was introduced to the founder of a small gospel music record label, Proclaim Records. She recorded an album with the record label titled, Jessica. The record label declared bankruptcy and the album was never officially released. She has also shared the stage with famous gospel artists such as God’s Property, Kirk Franklin, and Ce Ce Winans.

Jessica briefly attended J. J Pearce High School in Texas as a teenager. Her striking voice and musical talent caught the attention of Tommy Mottola, head of Columbia Records, and Mariah Carey’s husband at the time. At the age of 16, she signed a recording contract with Columbia Records. She dropped out of high school to concentrate on her career. She later went on to earn her GED. In 1999, she burst into the music scene and released her debut studio album, Sweet Kisses. The album was a massive hit and sold over four million copies worldwide.

She made her debut into the movie industry in 2005 with her role as Daisy Duke in the 2005 film adaptation of The Dukes of Hazzard. Although the movie was commercially successful, it received a negative critical reaction. The film was No. 1 at the box office its opening weekend and grossed $30.7 million on 3,785 screens. It also had an adjusted-dollar rank of No. 14 all-time for August releases. Simpson appeared on The Dukes of Hazzard soundtrack, releasing These Boots Are Made for Walkin’”, a cover of the 1966 Nancy Sinatra. The song became her 4th top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Jessica was nominated for Worst Supporting Actress, a Razzie Award, for The Dukes of Hazzard.

She, however, got intimidated by the performances of Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera and forgot her lines.
