Army Veteran Reunited with His Canine Partner After Six-Year Battle

Hundreds of dogs have been sent to Afghanistan by the US since the start of the war to serve alongside the soldiers there. According to a Bloomberg article in August 2017, roughly 1,600 Military War Dogs – as they’re called – were either in the field or helping recovering veterans.

This equates to approximately one dog for every three US soldiers currently in Afghanistan. With the sheer volume of improvised explosive devices – bombs constructed and developed in ways other than in conventional military action – dogs were critical in the effort to identify and disarm them.
