A Pretty Girl with a Privileged Upbringing
Her father Emil was a successful bank manager; her mother, Gertrude, or “Trude” to friends and family, was a pianist. Lamarr’s parents were originally Jewish, but Trude converted to Christianity and raised her daughter as a Christian. Lamarr was raised in a wealthy household thanks to her father’s financial success.
Lamarr showed a passion for acting from a very early age. It was said that even as a child, she was interested in the worlds of theater and film, fascinated by performers and eager to imitate them herself. It didn’t take long for Lamarr to become known for her striking good looks. In fact, she won a beauty contest when she was 12 years old.
