The Beginning of the War
William is from Somers, New York. He knew he would enlist in the army one day and fight for his country. And the moment he has been waiting for came to him when the Iraq War began in 2003. But the war in Iraq was a source of torture for many troops and their family members. As William would eventually find out.

In 2003, Iraq was under the reign of Saddam Hussein when the coalition forces invaded the country and overthrew the government. This was the start of the Iraq War. And 177,194 troops were sent to Iraq. During the initial stages of the war, more than hundreds of thousands of soldiers were sent to the war zone. William was, of course, one of them.
