James Scott Connors
James Scott Connors became a professional tennis player in 1972. Between 1974 and 1977, Connors held the top ATP ranking for 160 consecutive weeks, a record broken by Roger Federer on February 26, 2007. Known widely as Jimmy Connors, he was banned from taking part in the French Open because of his association with World Team Tennis. During his career, Jimmy Connors won 8 Grand Slam titles, 17 Grand Prix Super Series, and three year-end championships.
In 1974, Jimmy Connors got engaged to tennis champ Chris Evert. The couple broke off the engagement shortly before the Wimbledon championship in 1975. Connors later married Playboy model Patti McGuire. Connors holds the record of being one of only six men to win more than 3 Grand Slam singles title in a calendar year. He was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame in 1998.
