With a civil war going on in their country, many were astounded that El Salvador qualified for the FIFA World Cup tournament. Citizens took pride in knowing that their team was competing for places in the world’ greatest footballing event.
However, it seems that the will to represent their nation got in the heads of the El Salvador players who appeared to attack with reckless abandon. They left themselves exposed at the back, and Hungary capitalized on their mistakes. El Salvador suffered a humiliating defeat; they were beaten 10-1 by the Hungary team.
