All strikers dream of being their team’s top goal scorer, but few achieve that status. Brazilian hero Pele, however, set the world record for the highest amount of goals scored in a career – 760 official goals and a total of 1,281 overall. Modern-day football fans often associate him with current stars such as Lionel Messi or Christiano Ronaldo, but these two have not yet come close to breaking Pele’s record. He was named Athlete of the Century by Reuters in 1999 and is still considered to be the best soccer player of all time.
