Army Veteran Reunited with His Canine Partner After Six-Year Battle

Involving a Man from Indiana

Thousands of US soldiers have been deployed to Afghanistan over the years in what were dangerous and harrowing missions. This was the case for one particular soldier from Culver, Indiana, named Joe Steenbeke, who went to Afghanistan in 2012 to serve as a Tactical Explosive Detective Dog (TEDD) handler.

In short, his job was to disarm bonds, thereby securing the safety of the other soldiers in the area. However, this wasn’t possible without the aid of a dog that was trained specially to sniff out the bombs and other dangerous material. Joe needed a partner.
